Asset Management of Buried Infrastructure

Offered in partnership with the Centre for Advancement of Trenchless Technologies (www.catt.cat), in this hands-on course you will learn the fundamentals of asset management with particular emphasis on buried infrastructure (water and wastewater pipelines). The course incorporates real data and exercises to provide in‐depth knowledge of the essential processes and techniques required to establish an effective asset management program for water and wastewater utilities. 

Course Content

• Asset management frameworks and standards/specifications, such as ISO 55000, Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) guidelines; History and development of asset management practices
• Asset management legislative requirements (Bill 6, Building Together, ON Reg. 588/17)
• Asset management readiness assessment tools (FCM, AssetSMART, etc.)
• Water and wastewater networks asset inventory; Asset attributes and data requirements; Data gaps; Pipe materials for gravity and pressure applications
• Asset valuation methods; PSAB 3150 tangible capital asset reporting requirements
• Condition assessment techniques for water and wastewater pipelines
• Wastewater pipeline defect coding and condition grading using WRc and PACP protocols
• Water pipeline defect coding and condition grading
• Risk-based asset prioritization, and rehabilitation and replacement decision-making
• Pipeline rehabilitation and replacement technologies for water and wastewater systems
• Life-cycle cost analysis and development of capital investment plans
• Alternative financing strategies to support and implement a sustainable asset management plan
• New developments in water and wastewater network asset management
